Volunteer
Centers Development
Pro Vobis National Volunteer Center is
dedicated to the promotion of the concept
of volunteer center, as a means towards
facilitating the more efficient involvement
of volunteers in the communities in which
they live and work. The development of volunteer
centers is the core of Pro Vobis’
activity and it can be divided in two major
components:
(1) Developing existent volunteer
centers;
(2) Supporting the setting-up of new volunteer
centers.
According to Pro Vobis, a volunteer
center represents the mechanism
that facilitates the involvement in the
community’s life through identifying
and linking the needs existent in the community
with the stock of abilities, knowledge,
energy and enthusiasm available in the members
of that community. The volunteer center
can be set up as an independent juridical
entity (association or foundation), or as
a department or a program within an existent
organisation/institution.
The volunteer center mobilizes
the human and material resources available
in a community and administers them efficiently
in order to use their entire potential for
solving the problems that the community
is facing at that moment. The volunteer
center needs to be that place where each
member of the community (whether individual,
group or juridical entity) feels that he
can come in order to give something back
to the community where he lives. The emergence
of a volunteer center is a sign of maturity
and cohesion of the community.
The main activities of a volunteer
center are:
- Recruitment of volunteers;
- Recommendation of volunteers;
- Informing the public about volunteering;
- Consultancy on volunteer management
issues;
- Promoting good practice principles
in working with volunteers;
- Organising events for the acknowledgement
of volunteers;
- Organising events for the promotion
of volunteering
